In Memory of Sheila Humphries

Sheila HumphriesFor the past four years, Sheila Humphries’ calm and thoughtful manner helped set the tone for both clients and staff at Bethesda Cares. As a social worker, Sheila ably carried out the functions of her profession. She provided referrals to a variety of country programs and she provided shelter and housing referrals. She worked with clients suffering from substance abuse and helped get them into treatment. She motivated Bethesda Cares’ clients to look for work and break the cycle of homelessness.

But Sheila’s commitment and passion extended far beyond what was required of her professionally, and these qualities made her known and respected in the Bethesda community. Sheila was a superb listener, willing to listen to anyone with a problem. She never rushed nor hurried, but always made time for her clients, and in doing so, helped motivate them to look for work, to seek help. Her demeanor conveyed respect, concern, and caring.

She loved her family and friends, loved her work, and loved Bethesda Cares. She will deeply missed by all who knew her.
